A statue in every square, a pizzeria on every corner, a beautiful building in every direction.
We just got back from a few days in Prague. What a lovely city! It is completely breathtaking architecturally - you can't move without seeing some little detail or some grand building. The mix of historical periods is amazing and the fact that most of it is intact is astounding. St. Vitus' Cathedral, part of Prague Castle is enormous, and looms over one city hillside. Everywhere there are little squares and tiny streets of beauty.
Prague is a terrific walking city. We walked and walked and even though the trams are cute and the subway is supposed to be extremely modern and efficient, we never needed public transportation except to and from the airport. Distances are short and seeing the details seems to be very important to really experiencing the city.
I developed a few vices in Prague. Since it was hovering around freezing the whole time we were there, and mixed precipitation was the norm, hot beverages were constantly on my mind. The cafe below our apartment served probably the most delectable lattes I've ever had. In glass mugs with a perfect combination of espresso, milk and foam they were the sublime start of each day. Later in the day (although available from the earliest hours on) I was fond of the hot mulled wine, which seemed to be available in every cafe and as takeout on every street corner. Sweet, hot, delicious. I even had it with takeout pizza one night. Maybe not the perfect combination, but quite agreeable.
I would go back to Prague in a heartbeat.
I love to travel and have been all over the USA. Would love to visit over-seas someday. Great post!

Prague was just so beautiful. I would love to return. Now I hear Dubrovnik is similar but a little less crowded, so maybe I'll take a peek there sometime soon.
